Madison & Don’s Elegant Dromoland Castle Wedding in Emerald and Gold

Madison and Don’s Dromoland Castle wedding was a joyful spring celebration that brought together family and friends from Ireland, the UK, and the United States for a wonderful weekend in County Clare. The couple met on Hinge in 2021 and had their first date in Don’s favourite London pub, the Auld Shillelagh, where a few pints of Guinness quickly turned into a connection that neither of them expected but both instantly recognised. A romantic proposal followed two years later at the Christmas markets in Bruges, with Don choosing a quiet moment partway down the medieval bell tower to ask Madison to marry him. Eighteen months later, they gathered their loved ones at Dromoland for a destination wedding that felt both grand and wonderfully personal. With guests travelling from across the Atlantic, Madison and Don were keen to create a relaxed three-day celebration where everyone could settle in, explore the area, and enjoy the best of Irish hospitality. I was delighted to help them bring their vision to life at one of my favourite Irish wedding venues.

This wedding was featured in print in Social & Personal Weddings – you can also see the online feature here. We’re also delighted that it was recently featured on Loverly.

Choosing Dromoland Castle as the setting for their celebration felt like a natural decision for this couple. With guests travelling from near and far, they were keen to find a venue that offered a true Irish castle experience while still being easily accessible, and Dromoland delivers both beautifully. Set within 500 acres of parkland in the heart of County Clare and steeped in centuries of history connected to the O’Brien dynasty, it has a wonderful sense of occasion. The couple took full advantage of the estate throughout the weekend, beginning with a welcome gathering at the Fig Tree Restaurant and even arranging a relaxed morning of golf before the ceremony. Their vows took place in the castle’s enchanting Walled Garden, and afterwards, guests made their way to the magnificent Brian Boru Hall for dinner and dancing.

The ceremony at Madison and Don’s Dromoland Castle wedding took place in the Walled Garden, and it could not have suited them more. The gardens were in full bloom for early May, and we were blessed with one of those rare, glorious spring days where the sky is a perfect blue. Madison, looking like a dream in her Monique Lhuillier gown, walked down the aisle with her dad to ‘Concerning Hobbits’ from The Lord of the Rings. Don, not to be outdone, decided on a unique entrance of his own, and the string quartet played ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ as he and his groomsmen made their way in. It set the tone perfectly for a ceremony that was personal, playful, and full of laughter. Their celebrant, Caroline McCarthy, struck that balance so well, keeping things warm and heartfelt, with just the right amount of emotion. The ceremony also included a handfasting element, which was a beautiful way to symbolise the binding of two lives while also celebrating Irish culture.

For the reception, the couple leaned into their sumptuous emerald and gold palette. It truly looked sensational in the grandeur of the Brian Boru Hall! One of the loveliest details was their custom monogram crest, which was carried beautifully throughout the weekend, from the stationery to small, thoughtful touches that guests spotted as the night unfolded. We even incorporated it at the drinks reception on an ice sculpture, and on the heads of pints of Guinness, which delighted the couple’s guests and felt like a nod to the Irish pub of their first date. The room itself was transformed with dramatic draping, emerald velvet linens, gold flatware, candlelight, and elegant green and white florals. The soaring Gothic ceilings and grand scale created the perfect setting for a celebration of this size, along with that sense of occasion you only really get in a castle ballroom.

When it came time to party, Madison and Don’s band choice was inspired. They booked the band Spring Break, who brought the kind of energy that fills a dance floor from the first song. Don and his friends are longtime superfans, so it was a very “them” decision, and it turned the reception into the most brilliant celebration. The dance floor stayed packed all night, apart from the moments when the band were leading guests through the room in a conga line. So much fun! It was one of those weddings where you could genuinely feel the sense of community by the end of the weekend, and it was such a joy to watch everyone mixing together so easily.

From the welcome party and time on the grounds to the laughter-filled ceremony and the incredible energy of the reception, every part of this Dromoland Castle wedding felt intentional, warm, and personal.

Madison and Don – it was such a pleasure to be part of your destination wedding in Ireland, and I hope you look back on those spring days in County Clare for years to come with the biggest smiles. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness together.
